Low-level design·Easy

Lend physical copies, take them back, and queue members fairly for books that are all out.

Brief

Let a member borrow an available copy, up to a limit on simultaneous loans

Record a due date on each loan, and a late fine when a copy comes back overdue

Let a member place a hold on a title when no copy is available

When a copy is returned, reserve it for the earliest hold on that title, if there is one

Candidates, not a design. How they relate is yours to decide.

Tell a title (the work) apart from a copy (the object on the shelf)
Keep lending rules — limits, loan periods, fines — out of the classes that record what happened
Give holds a clear owner and a first-come, first-served order

Let a member renew a loan, unless another member holds that title
Give staff members a higher loan limit and a longer loan period
Expire a reserved copy that nobody collects within three days and pass it to the next hold

Add types, give them responsibilities, and connect them.
